Litschau is a town with 2272 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Gmünd in Lower Austria. It is the northernmost city in Austria. As a landmark of the city is the old castle tower - also called a dungeon, entwined around stories from the time of the Thirty Years' War. The castle itself was originally built around 1260. Since 2007 Litschau is a health resort.

Geography

Litschau located in Lower Austria's Waldviertel region in the valley of the tear stream at 531 m above sea level. A., about 5-10 km from the Czech border. History

The name is of Slavic origin and Litschau can be attributed to Ličov - formed Lič - attributed to the persons name.

The city Litschau 1286 first mentioned. In the 13th century a market was created, who came into the possession of the Habsburgs in 1297; this further pledged the settlement, the city survey was conducted to below the Puchheimern ( 1346-1470 ).
