Little Nicobar

Small Nicobar (English Little Nicobar, Hindi: छोटा निकोबार Chota Nicobar, nico barbaric: ओंग or Long ) belongs to the Indian archipelago of the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal to the east lies the Andaman Sea. Politically, the island is part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

It is sparsely populated with 432 inhabitants ( as of 2001) to 159 square kilometers. The main towns are Pulopanja (112 inhabitants), Pullollo / Puloulo and Makhahu / Makachua. A few kilometers to the south, beyond the St. George Street, is the neighboring island of Great Nicobar. To the north lie off the coast some more, small islands: Menchal, Pulomilo, Treis / Albatei, Trak / Mafuya and Meroe. About 70 km north lies the island of Katchal.

Small Nicobar has been hit hard by the tsunami as a result of the tsunami of 26 December 2004.
