Little Red Schoolhouse (Brunswick, New York)

The District # 6 School House, locally referred to as the Little Red Schoolhouse or the Lincoln School, was a schoolhouse in Brunswick, New York, United States, which was built around 1830 or 1837, and attended by students in grades 1-8, before the school district, into which it falls, in 1952 consolidated. The school was registered on 3 July 2008 in the National Register of Historic Places ( NRHP).

The building at the New York State Route 278 still belongs to the school board. It is believed that this is when the schoolhouse is the oldest school building in Rensselaer County. The house has no internal water supply or sewers. The original double outhouse was later replaced.

History

The schoolhouse was built in either 1830 or 1837 - the sources are in disagreement - and served the local Schüleren from the first to the eighth grade. The 11 school district of the county covered the area around clums Corners and was 1854-1862 for 6 school district.

The schoolhouse was built on a plot of land that presented Luther and Olive Eddy available. They owned that was a great piece of land that was adjacent to the present site of the school house. Luther Eddy in 1844 to the city's Superintendent of Education.

After the consolidation of the Brunswick Central School District in the 1950s, the school was closed, although it was briefly used for the relief of the new school building later. Later, the school house was used as a garage of the school board, what the western wall has been removed, so a garage door could be installed. Later it was used as a storage room.

In the 1970s, the exterior of the building was restored by local residents, while the western wall was reinstated. It was then used for a short time by the Brunswick Historical Society, before they moved into the building in the Garfield School. 2007, the interior has been revised by the use of time and materials of local residents.

On 3 July 2008 the school building was added to the National Register, as the second former schoolhouse in Brunswick to the Garfield School.
