Liu Ye (Three Kingdoms)

Liu Ye (Chinese刘 晔/刘 晔; * 171, † 234), style name Ziyang, was an adviser to the Chinese warlord Cao Cao during the Three Kingdoms.

He was descended from the Han Emperor Guangwu and was part of the Emperor Xian family. His friend Guo Jia struck him as an advisor to Cao Cao before, and Liu Ye introduced him to his friends Man Chong and Lu Qian. Liu Ye unmasked the assassination of Chen Gong in Puyang and warned Cao Cao. Nevertheless, Cao Cao had to suffer a defeat against the warlord Lu Bu.

After the defeat Cao Cao attacked again and drove to Puyang Lu Bu. Liu Ye was entrusted with the defense of the city, while Cao Cao Lu Bu pursued. When Cao Cao later assumed the post of Prime Minister of Han, Liu Ye was appointed Minister of Labour. Later, Liu Ye was promoted to the main administrative assistants, executive secretaries and senior counselor.

Cao Cao died in 220, and his son and successor Cao Pi forced Emperor Xian to abdicate in his favor. Cao Pi beforderte Liu Ye 221 for privy and granted him the title Lord of the second rank. Under Cao Rui, this title was changed to 226 Lord of Dongting.

When Cao Pi Sun Quan wanted to offer the Nine decorations, Liu Ye advised him against it and asked him to wait for the Battle of Shu and Wu. Cao Pi but refused to accept the advice and sent ambassadors to Wu.

While Cao Zhen's campaign against Shu (230 ), Liu Ye appointed commander in chief, but the campaign had to be canceled due to heavy rains. Two years later, Liu Ye Imperial Secretary of State and Minister protocol. Two years later he was asked to leave his duties as Imperial Secretary of State. He died at the age of 63 years and was awarded the posthumous title respectful gentleman.
