Llanidloes and Newtown Railway

The Llanidloes and Newtown Railway was a British railway company in Powys in Wales.

History

The Company was incorporated on August 4, 1859. The 22.5 km long railway line along the Severn between Llanidloes and Newtown was opened on April 30, 1859 for the carriage of goods and on September 2, 1859 for passenger traffic. Financed and carried out was the construction of the track by local capital and local labor. Involved in the company was among other things the Welsh Industrial and later MP David Davies of Llandinam. Only with the completion of the Oswestry and Newtown Railway on 10 June 1861, the hitherto isolated line was connected to the rest of the rail network. In Llanidloes was a connection to the Mid- Wales Railway.

Due to disputes over the right of way between the Mid- Wales Railway and the Manchester and Milford Railway of the 2.4 km long section between the railway station and Llanidloes Penpontbren slammed the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway Junction and the two competing companies received the rights thereto.

On July 25, 1864, the Company merged with three other railway companies to Cambrian Railways.
