Lloyd Kasten

Lloyd August box ( born April 14, 1905 in Watertown, Wisconsin; † 13 December 1999) was an American linguist, Hispanist, Lusitanist medievalist and German descent.

Life and work

Lloyd August Wilhelm box (whose mother tongue was German ) studied at the University of Wisconsin in Madison economy first and then Spanish ( completion 1927). Then he went to the University of Florida in Tallahassee and to Madrid at the Centro de Estudios Historical. He received his Ph.D. in 1931 in Madison with Antonio García Solalinde with work ( Eds.) Secreto de los secretos, translated by Juan Fernández de Heredia. An edition of the Aragonese unique manuscript with literary introduction and glossary.

After Solalindes early death, he took over as assistant professor, founded by his teacher Seminary of Medieval Spanish Studies (later the Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies) and managed it successfully for a lifetime. He became associate professor in 1942, full professor in 1947 and later Antonio G. Solalinde Distinguished Professor of Spanish and Portuguese. In 1975 he became Professor Emeritus, but remained active in the seminar.

Case co-founded the '' Luso - Brazilian Review ''. In 1956 he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1974 he became a member of the Academia de la Lengua Española Norte Americana ( ANLE ).
