Loch Venachar

Hole Venachar ( Scottish Gaelic: Loch Bheannchair ) is a situated between Callander and Brig o ' Turk freshwater lake in Stirling. The hole is about 82 m above sea level and is six kilometers long, with a maximum depth of about 33 meters.

Venachar hole is fed by coming out of the Loch Achray Blackwater at the western end; the outflow at the eastern end forms the Eas Gobhain which opens at Callander in the Leny.

On the southern shore of Loch there is an extended forest with numerous hiking trails, among other things lead to the Lake of Menteith; also on the south shore lies the Invertrossachs House, 1869 used by Queen Victoria as a summer residence. To the west you get to Loch Achray and the Trossachs; in the north of Loch Venachar is the first mountain of the Scottish highlands, Ben Ledi.

Tourism

Hole Venachar is a popular destination both for sailors as well as for fishermen; the most common fish species are trout and pike.
