Locris

Locris ( Greek:: Λοκρίς Locris; neugriech. Λοκρίδα Lokrida ) is an ancient region of central Greece. It consists of two separate areas: the eastern Locris ( Locris Eoia or Locris Opuntia ), which extends from Thermopylae along the Gulf of Euboea to Larymna, as well as the western Locris ( Locris Ozolia ) on the northern coast of the Corinthian Gulf to the strategically important port city Naupaktos.

Lie the territories of Doris and Phocis between the two Locrian areas. The division of the Locrians in two areas is probably due to events of the early settlement history of Greece. The splitting into two parts, and the fact that the Locrian areas also were not very fertile, with the result that the Locris in Greek history plays only a minor role and was mostly dominated by more powerful neighbors.
