Lodovico Zacconi

Ludovico Zacconi (* June 11, 1555 in Pesaro, † March 23, 1627 in Fiorenzuola at Pesaro ) was an Italian composer and music theorist.

He was an Augustinian monk in Venice, where he was ordained priest in 1575. 1585 we find him as maestro di capella at St. Augustine's Church in Venice; and 1592, he was attached to the chapel of William V, Duke of Bavaria. In 1596 he was Kapellmeister to Archduke Charles II of Inner Austria in Vienna, but in 1618 he returned to Italy, first in Genoa and finally in Pesaro.

The fame Zacconi is back to his great work Prattica di Musica, first published in Venice in 1592, of which a second volume appeared in 1619. These two volumes ( four papers included) act entirely on the musical theory and are abundant illustrated. The directions for the transmission of polyphonic music are of the highest value, especially Palestrina images. In fact, the work includes the complete basis of music as the end of the 16th century common.
