Logitech Media Server

Logitech Media Server (formerly SlimServer, SqueezeCenter and Squeezebox Server) is a DLNA server, which is further developed by Logitech. Originally developed the software from Slim Devices, to support their Squeezebox network music player. The playback of your own music collection requires the installation of the Logitech Media Server in home network to play Internet radio Logitech provides a server ( MySqueezebox.com ) available on the internet which can be contacted by the music player.

Logitech Media Server is an open source software released under the GNU General Public License.

Supported Music Player

Hardware

Logitech's own Squeezebox players are available in various designs, with LAN or WLAN, analog and digital audio output, touch screen, remote control, etc.

The following devices have been or are sold by Logitech: SLIMP3, Squeezebox, Squeezebox2, Squeezebox3, vans, Squeezebox Receiver & Controller, Squeezebox Boom, Squeezebox Radio, Squeezebox Touch.

In addition to the Logitech devices also support external hardware devices, such as Chumby or Soundbridge Roku.

Software

SqueezePlay based on SqueezeOS, the operating system on which to run the Squeezebox Duet, Radio and Touch. There are also SoftSqueeze, a free software emulated version of the Squeezebox.

Squeezebox Server was originally designed to play audio streams on your Squeezebox network music player. The audio stream can also be played over the Internet or LAN MP3 software players. SoftSqueeze (written in Java ) is a software player that was specifically designed for streaming from Logitech Media Server. Another player software is SqueezeSlave, which works without a display as a command line player. More players are such as Winamp, iTunes or the Android App Player squeeze.

Taxes can be any player usually on the Logitech Media Server web interface or applications on wireless devices, eg Android or iPhone applications. Squeezebox hardware players are usually supplied with an IR remote control.

Server

Logitech Media Server running on desktop, server and various NAS hardware, such as QNAP Turbo NAS, Synology Disk Station, NETGEAR ReadyNAS, Buffalo Linkstation, Linksys NSLU2, THECUS N5200 & N7700, Xtreamer eTRAYz and some equipment with the FreeNAS system. However, Logitech only supports the Netgear ReadyNAS NAS devices.

Software

The Logitech Media Server software is written in Perl and runs on Linux, Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, BSD and Solaris operating systems.

There are a large number of plug-ins for the Logitech Media Server that extend the functionality significantly. For example, the system can be connected to a home control, are displayed email inbox, the phone number of an incoming call, games, messages are displayed, playlists are managed, music will be played by rating, genre, or many other criteria and much more.

An extensive CLI allows you to control the Logitech Media Server via self-programmed software.

Supported Media Formats

Logitech Media Server is a DLNA-/UPnP-Mediaserver for audio, video and images. Transcoding is supported only for music, videos can not be transcoded.

Mp3, flac, wav, aiff, wma, Ogg Vorbis, HE- AACv2, Apple Lossless; Using plug-ins other audio formats can be processed, including various Internet radio stations.
