Loïc Leferme

Loïc Leferme ( born August 28, 1970 in Malo- les- Bains, Nord, † April 11, 2007 in Villefranche -sur -Mer ) was a French freediver. Until 2 October 2005, he held the world record in the discipline " No Limit ".

Leferme set his first world record in 1999 at a depth of 137 meters. On 20 October 2002, the next followed at a depth of 162 meters. On 30 October 2004, he beat his own record with a diving depth of 171 meters. On 2 October 2005, this record by the Austrian Herbert Nitsch freediver was broken, which reached 183 meters.

Hailing from a family of avid boaters Leferme was killed on 11 April 2007 with a workout in Villefranche -sur -Mer. According to press reports, he reached in the preparations for a new world record again a depth of 171 meters. However, the climb there were complications after tangled a guide line. Leferme was lifeless recovered from 20 meters depth, and died on the spot due to heart failure.
