Loma Prieta is a mountain in Santa Clara County, California. With 1155 meters above sea level it is the highest mountain in the Santa Cruz Mountains to the Pacific coast. Its name comes from Spanish and means " Dark Hills ". The summit is reached by a dirt road and the location of numerous transmitters. From the Loma Prieta of the amateur astronomer Don Edward Mach wood discovered several comets, including 96P/Machholz.

After the Loma Prieta Loma Prieta earthquake was named in 1989. Its epicenter was a few miles away from the mountaintop.
