London Olympics Media Centre

The London Olympics Media Centre is a building in London, which serves as the press and media center for the 2012 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Summer Games in 2012. It is located in Homerton area (London Borough of Hackney ) on the northwestern edge of the Olympic Park.

Description

At the site of the Olympic media center, the Hackney Wick Stadium was previously located. It was opened in 1932 and served as the venue for speedway and greyhound racing. After the operator had gone bankrupt in 1997, the stadium was demolished in 2003.

During the Olympic candidacy had been intended to finance the building complex exclusively private, since it was assumed that there would be enough people interested for a profitable future use. Due to the global financial crisis, however, demand started a downright. In December 2009, the British government was forced to the media center and the Olympic village public funding for, allocating a total of 702 million pounds from the emergency fund.

Construction began in April 2009 and were completed in July 2011, the construction costs amounted to 355 million pounds. The 275 meter long building complex is designed for a 24 -hour operation and can accommodate 20,000 media professionals. It consists of the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre. In between, a catering area and a multi-storey car park was built as a connecting element. After the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games around 90,000 sqm of office and commercial space will be available in the building complex.
