LongRun

LongRun and LongRun2 are power saving technology of the company Transmeta, comparable with Cool'n'Quiet AMD or Intel SpeedStep. Transmeta developed these technologies to use in their own processors. LongRun was introduced with the Crusoe, LongRun2 with the Efficeon. On 1 April 2005 Transmeta officially announced their intention to develop any further processors more and to focus instead on the development of pioneering technologies such as LongRun2. So far LongRun2 was the company Fujitsu, NEC, Sony, Toshiba and Nvidia licensed.

LongRun is mainly based on a dynamic, but very aggressive reduction of frequency and voltage, a processor for reducing the power consumption. LongRun2 goes a step further and engages in the manufacturing process of the processors. Since processors always have smaller structures, they have increasingly struggling with leakage currents. This increases the energy consumption of the processors without increasing their performance. Through intelligent manufacturing processes, leakage currents can be minimized.
