Longvic

Longvic is a commune with 9175 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Côte- d'Or in the Burgundy region. It belongs administratively to the district Dijon and the Canton Chenôve and is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté d' agglomération du Grand Dijon.

Geography

The municipality is located in the metropolitan area to the south of Dijon. It is bordered to the north by Dijon, on the northeast by Sennecey- lès -Dijon, to the east of Neuilly- lès- Dijon, on the southeast by Ouges, to the south Fénay, on the southwest by Marsannay -la-Côte and in the west on Chenôve.

The municipality is crossed by river Ouche which receives the tributary Suzon on the left. In the river valley and the Canal de Bourgogne runs.

History

During the Second World War there were in Longvic a POW camp. Félix Kir enabled some 5,000 inmates to escape.
