Lora Yakovleva

Lora Grigoryevna Yakovleva (Russian Лора Григорьевна Яковлева; * April 21, 1932 in Perm ) is a Russian chess player. She is World Champion in correspondence chess.

With 19 years Yakovleva began playing chess. Several times she qualified for the women's championship of the RSFSR. Also to Mr. tournaments she participated successfully.

Correspondence Chess

The first significant success was 5th place in the semifinals of the USSR Mr. championship. In 1972, she was third in the first Women's World Cup. In the second Women's World Cup, they finally won the 1977 world title. With 9.5 of 11 points she finished level on points with the defending champion Olga Rubzowa the first place, but was because of the better value calculation for the title.

At the 2nd Women's Correspondence Chess Olympiad ( 1980-1986 ), she won the Soviet team ( Olga Rubzowa, Lora Yakovleva, Marta Litinskaja, Ludmila Belavenets ) the gold medal.

Private

Yakovleva worked as a physics engineer in Perm. She has two children.
