Lord Edward Somerset

Lord Robert Edward Henry Somerset ( * December 19, 1776, † September 1, 1842 ) was a British cavalry general.

Life

Somerset was the third son of Henry Somerset, 5th Duke of Beaufort. His youngest brother was Fitzroy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan, the British commander in chief during the Crimean War. He joined in 1793 with the 15th Light Dragoons one and was in the following year Captain (it was usual at that time, Officer patents to buy ).
