Lords and margraves of Bergen op Zoom

In 1533 Emperor Charles V granted the title of " Marquis of Bergen op Zoom" (French for " Marquis de Bergen op Zoom" ) at Anton de Berghe out of the house glymes, lord of Bergen op Zoom.

History

Bergen op Zoom was owned by the Lords of Breda until the family became extinct in the 13th century. The death of the last mistress of Breda, Isabella (1280 /81) and her husband Arnold of Leuven ( 1287 ) led to a division of the estate among the heirs in the later barony of Breda and later Marquisat Bergen op Zoom. Bergen op Zoom was Gerhard von Wesemaele. In the next few generations succeeded rare to keep the feud within a family.
