Lorenz beam

The Lorenzbake is a radio- technical equipment, which served the pilot of an aircraft on landing approach to navigation. The (Berlin- Tempelhof ) device developed in 1934 by the C. Lorenz AG generated, similar to the modern instrument landing system, one pointing in the direction of the runway beacon which triggers an audible signal in an on-board receiver. Among other things, a Lorenzbake was installed at Bremen Airport, which is there exhibited in the museum Bremenhalle.

At the beginning of the Second World War Telefunken further developed the system for X - Leitstrahlverfahren that served the fighter aircraft of the Air Force for targeting during the Battle of Britain.
