Lori Garver

Lori Beth Garver ( May 22nd, 1961 in Lansing, Michigan) is an American government official. She was from 16 July 2009 to September 6, 2013 worked as deputy director of the U.S. space agency NASA and the second woman ever in a managerial position at Senior level within NASA.

Life

Lori Garver graduated in 1979 at the Haslett High School in Haslett, Michigan and in 1983 was awarded the Colorado College Bachelor's degree in political science and economics. From 1983 to 1984 she worked as an employee of John Glenn and made, now very interested in space travel, five years later at George Washington University, her Master of Arts degree in science, technology and public policy. This was followed by, among others, a job with the independent National Space Society, and she has been a visiting lecturer at the International Space University. For her work Garver received among other awards the NASA Distinguished Service Medal.

Employment at NASA

From 1996 to 2001, Lori Garver as assistant to the head of NASA and worked for the strategic planning of the space agency jointly responsible and in this capacity a member of the NASA Advisory Council. During Barack Obama's campaign campaign for U.S. presidential Garver was appointed as a consultant to space policy in the team. After Barack Obama's swearing-in, she was entrusted with the management of the Presidential Transition Agency Review Team. Together with Charles Bolden (Administrator ) ( Deputy Administrator ) of NASA Lori Garver was by President Obama on May 24, 2009 Deputy Head appointed and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 15, 2009 in her office. She succeeds by Shana Dale.

Beginning of August 2013 it was announced that Lori Garver will serve as general manager of the Air Line Pilots Association, the employee representatives of more than 64,000 professional pilots of U.S. and Canadian carriers.
