Lotus 41

The Lotus 41 was a Formula 2 and Formula 3 racing car, built by the British Motor Sport Team Lotus.

With the Lotus 41 Colin Chapman tried to fully enter into the emerging market of Formula 3 vehicles. With the Lotus 41, the team also returned to the space frame. The slides were but reinforced by metal partitions. The engine is mounted at an angle of 30 degrees and provided as the transmission for the stiffening of the truck.

The vehicles were used by the team of Charles Lucas, that was massively supported by Lotus. Piers Courage won some races in 1966 and scratched at the superiority of the Brabham team. 61 cars were built, which were sold at a price of 2475 pounds. The Lotus 41B was the formula - 2 version with FVA engine.

In 1967 the concept was revised. As Lotus 41C, the Formula 3 cars got new hangers. With the 41C Jackie Oliver drove his first race for Lotus. However, the car was considered to be unstable and the sales broke in mid 1967.

A special version was 41X that had extreme wedge shape. From this vehicle only a piece was built, the John Miles in 1968 drove. For this car, the Lotus 55 was later
