Lou Myers (actor)

Leabengula Lou Myers ( born September 26, 1935 in Chesapeake, West Virginia, † February 19, 2013 in Charleston, West Virginia ) was an American actor.

Life

Lou Myers was born the son of Dorothy Jeffries, born in Brown.

Myers began his career as a stage actor in 1975 on Broadway in New York City. His Broadway debut as an understudy in the role of Reverend Moseley in the play The First Breeze of Summer by Leslie Lee. Other roles on Broadway, he had in the theater productions of The Piano Lesson (1990/1991), in the produced by Oprah Winfrey's stage adaptation of the novel The Color Purple (2005-2008; Role: Old Man ) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (2008, role: Reverend Tooker ).

He won the NAACP Image Award in the category "Best Actor" for his role as agent provocateur in August Wilson's King Hedley II play ( Albert Ivar Goodman Theatre, Chicago, 2000; Virginia Theatre, New York City, 2001).

In the film, Myers was mostly occupied in the role of grouchy, grumpy old man. He had, among other minor roles in the films Tin Cup (1996 ), How Stella Got Her Groove half the battle (1998) and Wedding Planner - love, engaged, scheduled ( 2001). In the latter film, he played the role of Burt Weinberg, a friend of the character's Mary and her father, Mr. Fiore.

His most famous role was Myers from 1988 to 1993 when Mr. Vernon Gaines in the U.S. sitcom A Different World, a spin -off to the hit sitcom The Cosby Show. Myers played the owner and manager of the campus meeting place The Pit. 1987 Myers had already taken part in two episodes of the Cosby Show in a different role.

Myers had also episode roles in the American television series A father of two ( 1994), The Sentinel - In the Eye of the Hunter ( 1996), JAG - The Call of Duty (1998), ER - Emergency Room (2001 ) and New York Cops - NYPD Blue (2004 /2005).

Myers was also active as a pianist. He joined as an interpreter of jazz and blues songs in their own cabaret show titled Negro Music in Revue on.

Myers died at the age of 77 years at the Charleston Area Medical Center in the U.S. state of West Virginia from heart failure. In December 2012, Myers had been admitted for pneumonia to the hospital and had suffered a relapse in January 2013.
