Lough Rynn Castle

Lough Rynn Castle (Irish Caisleán Loch na Reanna ) is a castle located on the isthmus between the lakes Lough Rynn and Lough Erril near the town of Mohill in County Leitrim in Ireland. It was formerly the seat of the Earls of Leitrim and is now used as a luxury hotel.

The castle's history goes back about 200 years. The present building was designed in 1833 by Robert Clements. Besides the main building there is a large park and a typical garden for Ireland.

The 3rd Earl of Leitrim, William Sydney Clements, was obsessed with the good Lough Rynn to turn into a flagship operation.

He took great construction gained additional country and banned the slash and burn.

But his greatest progress was the prohibition of land use, which previously consisted of this system: Each family was allotted a piece of each, in proportion to their participation in the community. Over the years the land was less had any family. Thus, the operative farms were too small to feed the families.
