Louis-Antoine Dornel

Louis -Antoine Dornel (* around 1685 in Paris, † 1765 ) was a French organist and composer.

Life

Little is known about the musical education of Louis- Antoine Dornel. Among his teachers was the organist Chauvet, which he 1713 " Sonatas en trio ... " devoted.

Since 1706 he worked as an organist in his native town, first at the Sainte -Madeleine - de -la- Cité and 1719 at the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève. He was already in 1716 Deputy organist André Raison. 1725 he was appointed music master of the Académie française. He held until 1742 this office.

From the large number of his compositions today are only a few survived. His motets and cantatas - commissioned compositions of the Académie Française - have not survived. Reported are some works of various occupations, including serious and light-hearted songs, dance pieces for harpsichord in the style of Couperin, sonatas for violin and flute, trio sonatas, airs, and compositions for organ.

Dornel also dealt with pedagogical issues of music, what his work " Le tour du clavier ... " occupied.
