Louis-Benoît Picard

Louis -Benoît Picard ( born July 19, 1769 in Paris, France, † December 31, 1828 ) was a French dramatist.

Benoît wrote already with 20 years for the stage, but made up only in 1797 by the comedy Médiocre et rampant ( by Friedrich Schiller edited under the title The parasite ) a name. He joined himself as an actor and in 1801 director of the Théâtre Louvois. In 1807 he renounced the stage, was a member of the Académie française and Director of the Imperial Academy of Music ( Paris Opera ), took over in 1816 the Théâtre de l' Odéon, but put 1821, the Directorate down.

He wrote comedies like character Médiocre et rampant, L'entrée dans le monde and Duhautcours and manners comedies, containing a practical morality. They include La petite ville, Monsieur Musard, Les Marionettes and Les deux Philibert. Schiller as Uncle Nephew is a translation of the comedy of the Encore Ménechmes. The Théâtre de P. (1812, 6 vols, 1821, 8 vols, new edition of Fournier, 1879) contains only the pieces that held the author himself of the pressure worthy. He also wrote a series of novels.
