Louis Chauvin

Louis Chauvin ( born March 13, 1881 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 26 March 1908 in Chicago) was an American ragtime pianist and composer.

His father was a Spanish- Mexican Indian descent, and his mother African- American. He was around the turn of the century as one of the most talented and best ragtime pianists and composers in St. Louis and was part of the ragtime community that met regularly in Tom Turpin's bar. He died of syphilis before his career had begun.

From his few published works is still the with Scott Joplin Rag Heliotrope Bouquet composed known. The first two " strains " are proof of Chauvin and that he with Joplin was a musical and pianistic on a stage.
