Louis Grech

Louis Grech ( born March 22, 1947 in Ħamrun ) is a Maltese politician of the Social Democratic Malta Labour Party (MLP ). Since 2004 he is member of the European Parliament and since March 13, 2013 Minister for European Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.

Previously, he was, after studying economics at the University of Malta, among others CEO of Malta Air Malta, director of the Bank of Valletta and the Maltese Central Bank and Chairman of the tourism enterprise Holiday Malta.

As Malta participated for the first time after joining the EU in 2004 at the European elections, Grech was elected to the European Parliament. He belongs to the Group of the Party of European Socialists, and since the 2009 European elections Deputy Chairman of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection. Grech is a member of the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand as well as deputy in, Budget Committee and in the delegations: Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo; Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly EURO- NEST.
