Louis-Häfliger-Park
The Louis Haefliger Park is a 5,000 -square meter public park in Oerlikon in Zurich between the production de Oerlikon Contraves and Wohnüberbauung Regina Kaegi - yard. It is named after Louis Haefliger, a Swiss bank employee, who became known as the savior of Mauthausen and with his action in May 1945, made sure that some 40,000 prisoners of Mauthausen concentration camp were freed.
Shaping
For the Louis Haefliger Park design competition was announced by Green City Zurich in 2000, the office of Landscape Architecture Kuhn and Truninger won with their project " quilt ". Together with Pascal Wiedemann, Zurich, and Grego & Smolenicky Architecture, Zurich, the work was completed after a construction period of 10 months and inaugurated the park on August 30, 2003.
In design terms, the project authors kept to the principle nothing new to add, but take only what already exists. The project is distinguished by the different fields that are patchwork like a patchwork quilt, or " quilt " together into a whole.
The paved tree field is planted with wingnut trees ( Pterocarya ) and extends over the entire length of the park. In heavy rain, the rain water accumulates temporarily over the flat retention hoppers and forms mirror surfaces. This is referred to the high water table on the site, which extends to 80 inches below the surface.
In the zone along the Binzmühlestrasse is pebbled frame with red gravel, willow bushes and benches. It is fastened by thirty on the ground, as Blumenfeld arranged, strikingly yellow, hemispherical lights is lit, the normal use in traffic dividers.
