Christian Louis Heinrich Köhler ( born September 5, 1820 Braunschweig, † February 16, 1886 in Königsberg ) was a music critic and composer, writer on music, and above all a very important piano teacher.

Life

Köhler was a pupil of A. Sun Man (piano ), Christian LD Zinkeisen sen., Joseph Adolph ephod ( theory and harmony ) and Christian Zinkeisen jun. (Violin) in Braunschweig.

From 1839 to 1843 he continued his studies in Vienna, he studied theory and composition with Simon Sechter and Ignaz Ritter von Seyfried and piano on the advice of Carl Czerny Carl Maria von Booklet.

From 1843 to 1847 he was theater conductor in Marienburg, Elbing and Königsberg, from 1847 he was in Königsberg active as a piano teacher and conductor of the singer Association. Later, he became director of a school for piano and theory. He was a piano teacher so wanted that he set up so-called " Clavierzirkel " to cater to the demand.

He wrote as a music critic for the very prestigious Königsberg " Hartungsche newspaper " and went on an extensive journalistic work after.

He was among numerous others out of the piano works of Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven and the complete works for piano by CM von Weber. His compositions include a total of 314 works, including an incidental music to "Helena" by Euripides, the opera " Prince and Painter ", " Maria Dolores ", " Gil Blas " and the ballet "The Magic Composer ". They are less significant and now largely forgotten, his piano pedagogical works, however, were launched again and again to the 21st century.
