Louis-Michel Letort de Lorville

Général Louis -Michel Letort de Lorville ( born September 9, 1773 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye, † June 16, 1815 in Charleroi) was a French officer in the French revolutionary army and the Napoleonic army, most recently in the rank of general.

Military service

Letort joined in 1791 as a volunteer in the French Revolutionary Army and fought in the 1792 Battle of Jemappes and 1793 in the Battle of Neerwinden. Later he served in the Napoleonic army and took part in their campaigns. In the Italian campaign in 1799, he was wounded, as well as in the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt. In Spain, he distinguished himself in front of Burgos and was raised by Napoleon on September 9, 1810 " Baron de l'Empire ". Letort took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 and distinguished himself again at the Battle of Maloyaroslavets. On 30 January 1813, he was promoted to brigadier general.

In the Battle of Leipzig, he was again wounded, but remained in service and also took part in the Battle of Hanau. During the winter campaign in 1814, he distinguished himself at the Battle of Montmirail and was promoted to major general on the following day. On March 19, 1814 managed to capture a Pontonzug the Bohemian army him on the Seine.

During the rule of the Hundred Days he commanded the Dragoons of the Imperial Guard. On June 15, Napoleon ordered him to pursue Zieten with the four squadrons of his personal bodyguard fleeing infantry of the first Prussian corps of General. Letort completed the task successfully and with flying colors, but was fatally wounded and died the next day in Charleroi.
