Louis-Pierre Anquetil

Louis -Pierre Anquetil ( born January 21, 1723 in Paris, † September 6, 1808 ) was a French historian.

Life

Anquetil was the older brother of Abraham Hyacinthe Anquetil - later Orientalists Duperron and studied together with this theology at the Collège Mazarin. At the end of his studies, Anquetil joined the Congregation of Sainte- Genevieve, and was entrusted as such with the guidance of a seminar in Reims. During these years his Histoire de Reims, is considered one of his best works was born. Later he was called Anquetil director of the College of Senlis. Around 1790 he became the pastor at La Villette in Paris.

As a pastor, he lost in the first few years of the French Revolution his office. During the reign of terror in the years 1793 to 1794 he was imprisoned. At the creation of the Institut de France, he became a member of the second class. As Napoleon I, was elected First Consul, the State Administration was restructured. This Anquetil took a job at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This office had Anquetil held until his death at the age of 85 years on September 6, 1808.
