Quote

Voltaire called Louis Racine " ... le bon versificateur, fil du grand poète Racine ... "

Reception

Racine shone in an immoral time as a model of religious and civic virtues. His didactic poems: " De la grâce " ( 1720) and "La religion " ( 1742) are characterized more by religious and poetic warmth. His odes and epistles are held serious and dignified; the language is elegant, but without genuine poetic momentum.
