Louisa Bassano

Louisa Bassano (* February 19, 1818; † August 20, 1908 in London) was a British opera singer with the voice Mezzo soprano.

Life

Louisa Bassano was the second daughter of Clemente Bassano and the older sister of the famous photographer Alexander Bassano ( 1829-1913 ). Together with the Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt toured 1840-1841 around the British Isles. On August 26, 1846 Miss Bassano sang in Birmingham in the premiere of Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah and at one of the concerts Queen Victoria and her Prince Consort were present, the Mendelssohn and Bassano granted an audience.

In 1849, Louisa Bassano married the pianist Frederick George Boddy († 1853). Later Madame Bassano taught singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she was also elected a member.
