Action

The architect Hal Norton returns home. It is laden with gifts for the family, because he wants to celebrate his appointment as Vice President of his company. However, his wife Meg, his son Chris and his daughter Cathy to welcome him with gloom. Meg tells him that neck mother Louisa, who also lives in the house, was the reason for the bad mood. Before returning home, she has alienated the neck grocer with a complaint. Hal suggests his mother, otherwise accommodate somewhere in a nice place.

The next morning the injured Louisa wants to go to a meeting in a nursing unit. On the way there she apologizes to Henry Hammond, the dealer. The two talk to each other and confirm that age is difficult. Louisa and Henry begin a secret romance. One evening Cathy sees the two in a movie theater and rushes home to get it to tell the family. Hal is shocked and waiting for his mother, who he admits that Henry had asked her to marry him.

Hal is so distraught that his work suffers. His boss Abel Burnside sends him home early. That evening, Henry 's coming to dinner to the Nortons. Henry is charming and gets along with everyone, including Cathy's friend Jimmy Blake. Only Hal is skeptical. At the table, Henry repeated his request, but before Louisa can answer, Burnside appears with the message that neck project would be immediately deleted. Burnside is immediately impressed by Louisa, a little flirting with him. The jealous Henry leaves the house. The rest of the weekend is Louisa Burnside courted, but she thinks all the time at Henry. In a dance Louisa and Burnside win a dance competition. As Burnside Henry defeated in a wrestling match, Louisa rushes to Henry home while Burnside returns to the city.

On the following Monday confronted Burnside Hal with a report on Henry, who accused him of bigamy. Louisa will not believe the report. Hal does not want it again sees Henry, but Louisa runs away. Hal notified the police. Burnside visited later the Nortons, as Jimmy Blake reported that he had seen a woman in a window of Henry's apartment. All rush to the apartment, where it turns out that Louisa is actually there. Henry explains that all four women with whom he is allegedly married the same person. He and his first wife loved each other so closely that they decided every ten years to marry again until she died. Now, Hal is also convinced that Louisa had found the right man. All of their friends and family to witness the marriage of Henry and Louisa.

The lexicon of the International film sees the film as a " trivial comedy. "

Awards

In 1951 the Sound Department of Universal Pictures was nominated in the category Best Sound for the Oscar.

Another nomination there was Spring Byington for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy.

The premiere took place on 31 May 1950. In Germany the film was first seen on March 4, 1984 as part of a television premiere of the ARD.

The film was the debut for Piper Laurie.
