Love song

As a love song refers to a special form of poetry and music, in which the love between two people is sung. Some forms can be distinguished:

  • As a poem or a song - this again in several forms
  • As a hymn to the loved one,
  • About happiness and kisses, performance or confidence,
  • As thanks or as a prayer,
  • About pain or despair of the rejected,
  • As a death wish - for example, in the romance,
  • Pondering over the bandwidth of joy to fear, anguish and grief
  • And other ( rarer ) forms.

Love poetry is already handed down from thousands of years before the Christian era (eg from Sumer, in the Bible ( eg, Song of Songs ), the Kama Sutra ) and has in ancient times ( including among Ovid ) found a first climax. But even in 12./13.Jahrhundert love songs reached another climax: So you said minstrels (of minne = love ) is a special skill in inventing and delivering of soulful songs based. Among the young nobles the art of minnesong was highly regarded: It was, inter alia, to singers contests among the best minstrels, where you courted the favor of the "noble Frouwen ". Hartmann von Aue and Wolfram von Eschenbach were famous for their poetry; Walther von der Vogelweide was seen as the one who invented the most beautiful melodies.

Love songs were known of all segments of the population beyond and popular. These were orally distributed; maintained in the handwritten written songbooks from the 15th century. From the romance about the set to music by Schubert serenade should be mentioned, or the mourning of a loss:

I stood in dark dreams - and stares at her image, and began beloved face / to live secretly ...

Often as old are the lyrics of many popular songs. Representing be mentioned two from the Bavarian- Upper Austrian -speaking world. Many go back to texts of earlier poets.

From the rich work of Goethe stands out a short hexameter, which marks the limit between love poetry and epigram:
