Origin and History

Type dogs of today's race Löwchen seem to have already existed in the Middle Ages: in the Amiens Cathedral, built in the 13th century, you can visit two carved in stone, Löwchen, which are exactly the same type. Previously, the classic fashion dog of the aristocracy, he disappeared in the late 19th century and in the 20th century almost completely out of the picture. Around 1965 there were hardly more than 40 copies worldwide. As a result, the number of dogs rose slowly again. In 1976, the breed recognition by the British Kennel Club in 1995 by the FCI a new slightly modified standard.

Description

The Löwchen is an up to 33 cm high and about 6 kg heavier companion dog with silky hair, long, wavy, dense; without undercoat; all colors or all combined colors are permitted. The ears are low set, of medium length, the tail is carried gracefully arched over the back, without touching it.

Nature

Despite its origins as a luxury dog he is a hardy dog ​​who feels comfortable in palaces, but also in the countryside. His coat is weatherproof, he spares no long walks, running on the wheel or horse. His good-natured nature makes him a good beginner dog who likes children.
