Lower limb
The lower extremity, the leg is referred in particular the people in the medical terminology. It is used for locomotion.
In four-legged mammals, the corresponding limbs than hind legs, rear extremities or pelvic limbs are referred to ( the pelvic membrum ). They also make these the main contribution to locomotion.
One leg consists of
- Buttocks
- Hip joint ( articulatio coxae )
- Thigh (femur)
- Knee ( joint ) ( articulation genus)
- Lower leg ( crus )
- Foot ( pes ), composed of Tarsus ( rearfoot ) ( Tarsus )
- Metatarsal ( metatarsus )
- Toes ( digiti pedis )
The ingredients are bones, muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments and nerves, which together movements, as well as blood vessels, lymphatics and skin coating.
For an average adult a leg makes up about one-fifth of the body weight of both legs together so a good 40 percent.
In colloquial language is called leg often only the area between the buttocks and feet respectively.
