Luambe-Nationalpark

The Luambe National Park is found in the eastern parts of Zambia. Just north of the famous South Luangwa and south of the Nordluangwa National Park, it is, like its neighbors, in the Luangwa Valley, which extends to the foot of a spur of the Great African grave breach " Rift Valley ". Lifeline of the valley is constantly water-bearing Luangwa River with hundreds of small tributaries that lead only in the rainy season. The ever-changing river forming new river banks and lagoons that make up the particular ecological system of the area with unique flora and fauna.

The 30,000 -acre Luambe National Park consists mainly of a flat plateau with locally dense vegetation, isolated lagoons and Mopanebaumwäldern, but also open grass areas. He is about 500 - 700 m above sea level.

The once legendary animal wealth in the Luangwa Valley was decimated by massive poaching in the seventies and eighties that the parks were in the valley almost as empty shot. During the South Luangwa National Park early could protect wildlife populations, at least in the area lodges with Photo Tourism, the Luambe National Park has long been undeveloped due to mismanagement and lack of parking structure. Lack of infrastructure and inadequate monitoring enabled poachers virtually uncontrolled freedoms.

Since 2003, the Park of CCSC ( Communities for Conservation Society Cologne eV), a private initiative, based in Cologne, in cooperation with ZAWA (Zambia Wildlife Authority ) is conducted with the involvement of the local population and rebuilt. Extension of infrastructure and anti-poaching led in recent years to a dramatic increase in animal numbers. Even the tourist park is increasingly developed, a lodge already offers accommodation in the very interesting exclusively to Park.

The geographical proximity to South Luangwa and Nordluangwa National Park, it is conceivable in the future a comprehensive protected area of the entire Luangwa Valley with expansion to Malawi, similar to the Transfrontier Park, such as between the Kruger National Park in South Africa, the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe to create.
