The Lublin airport is to be constructed for the national and international traffic on the site of the old airport Świdnik. The new building will extend to the area of the places Świdnik and Wólka near Lublin and go in October of 2012. In November 2008, the preparatory work for the construction of the airport, among others, with the demolition of some buildings and the relocation of a military cemetery began.

History

In 1935 started the construction of the airport at this point, in an area of ​​146 ha in 1938, a pilot school was established here, to this end, two hangars and several farm buildings were erected. During the Second World War the airport was used by the Luftwaffe. After the war, the helicopter factory PZL Świdnik was settled in 1951.

New 2008 - 2012

The old runway and all the buildings were demolished. A complete new building was erected. A terminal, a runway with 2520 m length, a width of 45 m 2 x 7.5 m and the necessary outbuildings arise. The terminal is in the first stage have a capacity of 1 million passengers, in a later stage of development, it should be optional 3.2 million. The ownership society is organized as a corporation. The shares are distributed as follows:

  • Municipality of Lublin with 989,845 shares ( 55.16 %)

  • County Świdnik 153 shares ( 0.01%)

Infrastructure

A newly constructed rail link is run in 15 minutes from Central Station to Lublin Lublin airport directly with a stop in Swidnik. In addition, the airport is the newly built expressway S17 ( two lanes in each direction ) connected to the highway infrastructure in 2013.

Environment

On the site of the proposed airport, there is a colony Perlziesel. For the protection and resettlement of the animals, a foundation was established.
