Lubrański Academy

The Lubrański Academy (Polish: Akademia Lubrańskiego, Latin: Collegium Lubranscianum ) was founded in 1518 by the Poznań Bishop Jan Lubrański and was the first university in the city of Poznan.

The Academy was at its inception from the theological and humanistic faculty. Your first rector was the geographer, astronomer, and philosopher Jan of Stobnica, where the famous humanist Tomasz Bederman followed in office. In its heyday, the institution was also an internationally renowned teaching facility. The humanist Christoph Hegendorf, the Philipp Melanchthon had recommended to Poznan, worked for a time as Greek lecturer at the Academy.

The Poznań Academy did not have the right to grant academic degrees, so that the appropriate tests had to be stored, for example at the Jagiellonian University. The school was merged after the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, with the Jesuit College poses for Wojewódzka SzkoĹ Wydziałowa ( Woiwodschaftschule ), which was closed in 1793. Today, the building of the Academy houses the archive and museum of the Archdiocese of Poznan.
