Lucasian Professor of Mathematics

The Luca Forensic Department of Mathematics ( Lucasian Professorship of Mathematics ) is a professor at the University of Cambridge. He is considered one of the most prestigious university chairs at all.

It was developed by Henry Lucas (around 1610-1663 ), a Member of the University in the House, donated in 1663, by transferring the University land to fund the chair at Trinity College.

First Lucasischer professor was the mathematician Isaac Barrow, whose successor in 1669 Isaac Newton was. Other important holder of the chair were Isaac Milner, the influential teacher of William Wilberforce, who sat at the head of the movement to abolish the slave trade ( abolitionism ), also George Biddell Airy, Charles Babbage, George Gabriel Stokes, Joseph Larmor, Paul Dirac and Stephen Hawking.
