Luchenza
Region
Luchenza is a small town with 12,500 inhabitants ( 2006 estimate ) in southern Malawi. It lies in the flat grasslands between Shire Highlands and Mulanje Massif in Thyolo district. Through them lead the road Thyolo - Mulanje and the route of the Malawi Railways Beira Blantyre. In the town there are shops, tailors, woodworking, blacksmiths, glazier. The houses are partly made of solid concrete. From here, tea from Thyolo and Mulanje of wood are transported to Blantyre. The grassland itself, ranging 100 km north to the Chilwa Lake and surrounding as a giant swamp area is sparsely populated, because it lies in the rain shadow of high mountains and watered by these manufactures.
Luchenza has primary and secondary schools and a hospital.
