Lucius Caesennius Paetus

Lucius Junius Caesennius Paetus ( † after 71) was a Roman politician.

Paetus was in the year 61 together with Publius Petronius Turpilianus ordinary consul, is therefore likely to be born before 18 AD .. In the same year sent him Nero as imperial legate ( legatus Augusti pro praetore ) for the protection of Armenia to Cappadocia.

Since the year 70 he was governor of the province of Syria. 71/72 he defeated there Antiochus IV of Commagene. Commagene was subsequently incorporated into the province of Syria. About his death is not known.

He was probably the father of the same name Lucius Junius Caesennius Paetus, who held the office of Suffektkonsuls in 79 and served around the year 94 as proconsul of the province of Asia.
