The Lüdische ( Lüüdin keel ') is spoken by about 3,000 people in the Republic of Karelia in northwest Russia ( Ladoga and Lake Onega in the area between ).
The Lüdische belongs together with the Olonetzischen to the main dialects of Karelian and is the Wepsischen already closer than Finnish.
This becomes clear in the less pronounced vowel harmony and the only rudimentary sound change. Moreover, the Lüdische many more diphthongs and Triphthongen than other Baltic Finnish languages.
