Ludmila Ulehla

Ludmila Ulehla ( born May 20, 1923 in Flushing, Queens, New York City; † 5 December 2009) was an American composer and music educator.

Ulehla had as a child piano and violin lessons and composing at the age of five years, small pieces of these instruments. She studied at the Manhattan School of Music composition with Vittorio Giannini. Here she taught from 1947 Composition and led from 1972 to 1989 the Department of Composition.

Among her students to composers such as Henriette Müller and Larry Hochman, pianist and composer David Kane found as well as the jazz musician Tim Sund and Richie Beirach.
