Ludvík Kundera

Ludvik Kundera ( born March 22, 1920 in Brno, † August 17, 2010 Boskovický ) was a Czech writer. He was considered a surrealist, and was especially known for ironic and satirical poems, stories and essays.

Life and work

After graduation in 1938 at the high school Leitmeritzer Kundera enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy, Charles University in Prague, but moved to Brno, where he was surprised by the closure of universities in the wake of the German occupation. His studies he therefore finished until 1946. He also wrote during his time as forced laborers in Berlin- Spandau. After the war he became a founding member of the surrealist artist association Skupina RA, whose manifesto, the article Mladší Surrealiste, he wrote in 1945, together with Zdeněk Lorenc. His 1961 play The posted total Crowing ( Totální kuropění ) alternates between verses, prose and song parts. Since 1967 he was a member of P.E.N.

From 1968 to 1970, Kundera head of dramaturgy at the Theatre Brno. Following the granting of a publication ban, he published in samizdat and was from 1973 to 1975 a samizdat Edition Host do domu ( guest into the house ) out. Since 1976 he lived until his death in Kunstat ( Moravia ). 1990-1999 Kundera was entrusted with guest lectures at Brno and Olomouc universities. Since the late 1990s, an extensive work output appears. He was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Saxon Academy of Arts. Kundera belonged to the Obec to spisovatelů. He was the nephew of the pianist Ludvik Kundera and the cousin of writer Milan Kundera.

October 28, 2007 the Czech National Day, the Medal of Merit for the Czech state to him by President Vaclav Klaus was awarded culture and art in the area.
