Ludwig August Lebrun

Ludwig August Lebrun ( born 2 May 1752 in Mannheim, † December 16, 1790 in Berlin) was a German oboist and composer.

Life

The well-known and celebrated oboe virtuoso, he " charmed by his divine oboe " - as a contemporary report - was a member of the court orchestra at the court of the Elector Karl Theodor in Mannheim. His father, also an oboist and probably Belgian origin worked demonstrably from 1747 at the Mannheim court. As early as 1764, when twelve- year-old Ludwig August Lebrun has performed with the court orchestra from 1767, he was admitted as a full member. He was a contemporary of Carl Stamitz and Anton Stamitz, who belonged to the Mannheim school.

In the summer of 1778, he married Franziska Dorothea Danzi, the sister of Franz Danzi, one of the finest and most famous singers of her time. With her he traveled throughout Europe: Milan, Paris, London, Vienna, Prague, Naples, Munich and Berlin were the stations. The perfectly matched instrumental and vocal artistry of the couple, the numerous composers was particularly renowned for unpaid by arias with obbligato oboe tribute, such as Ignaz Holzbauer in Günther von Schwarzburg (1777 ), Antonio Salieri in L' Europe riconosciuta ( 1778) and Georg Joseph Vogler in Castore e Polluce (1787 ).

The musicologist Charles Burney wrote about appearances of the pair: " Franziska Danzi and the excellent oboist Lebrun Usually travel together, and It Seems as though she has listened to nothing other than his instrument, for whenthey perform together in Thirds and sixths one can not hear Which is the upper or the lower voice! "

Lebrun died of inflammation of the liver.
