Ludwig Rödl

Ludwig Rödl ( born April 30, 1907 in Nuremberg, † March 23, 1970 in Nuremberg ) was a German chess master.

Rödl, a lawyer by profession, had its most successful period as a chess player in the 1930s. After DSB Congress Duisburg 1929 he defeated in the tie-break to the DSB championship title Ludwig Engels with 5.5 to 2.5 ( 5-2 = 1; 1930 in Nuremberg and Dusseldorf ). In 1931, he won jointly with Efim Bogolyubov the tournament for the German championship in Swinoujscie. In the ensuing tie-break Rödl Bogolyubov defeated Nuremberg with 2-4 ( 0-2 = 4). In the tournament of Swinoujscie 1932 he finished second behind Gösta Stoltz, also second in Bad Pyrmont in 1933, third in Bad Aachen 1934., 1936, he took in Munich at the unofficial Chess Olympiad in part.

In 1947 he won in Ried castle before Wolfgang Unzicker and finished in second place behind Lüneburg Bogolyubov.
