Lugnås

Lugnås is a place in the Swedish municipality of Mariestad. It is located about 12 kilometers southwest of the city of Mariestad on the Lugnåsberg, the smallest and most northerly of Table Mountain Västergötland.

History

In Lugnås you millstones from the gneiss layer of the Lugnåsberges began to beat in the 12th century. Mid-19th century, the demand to such an extent that the operation took industrial coatings. Several hundred meters long horizon elle programs created in this way. Millstones Lugnås were, inter alia, exported to Africa and Turkey. However, after the end of the First World War, the beat of natural stones hand were replaced by artificial stones, and in 1919 the last millstone was manufactured in Lugnås. A five-kilometer trail, which takes its starting point from nature reserve Klosterängen, tells the story of Lugnås. Today, the European Route 20 and the railroad Kinnekullebanan leads past the site.
