Lugny, Saône-et-Loire

Lugny is a municipality with 919 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the French department of Saône- et- Loire ( arrondissement Mâcon ). It is the center of the landscape skin - Mâcon, capital of Canton Lugny and was first mentioned in 894. Through the area of the Lugny Bourbonne which opens later in the Saône flows. The local church dates from the 19th century.

Economically dominated Lugny the wine: around one quarter of the area of the village consists of vineyards. Lugny part of the Burgundy wine country and forms a stop on the wine road Maconnais -Beaujolais.

On July 27, 1991 Lugny was the starting point of a time trial of the 78th Tour de France.

Since 1980, the municipality of the Rhineland-Palatinate Meckenheim in a partnership.

Viniculture

The wines produced in the village ( mainly whites ) can be marketed under the designation of origin (Appellation d' Origine ) AOC Mâcon. In addition, the strong regional spread Burgundy wines Aligoté, Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire, Crémant de Bourgogne and Passetoutgrain may be grown in Lugny.
